Got my copy of AARP Magazine today and there is an extensive story on 1968 that everyone might find interesting. It can be accessed at the AARP site at http://www.aarpmagazine.org/people/1968/.
Coincidentally (or not!) in a recent Sports Illustrated article there was a passing reference to the famous 1968 IM basketball team--Grover Dill and the Tasmanian Devils. It was one of those "Where Are They Now?" feature stories---except there was nothing to feature. The reporter, whose investigative skills would not have met the standards of the Minnetonka Record, was unable to locate any of the former players. He speculated they had either experienced untimely deaths due to drugs or a sexually transmitted disease, were in prison or a witness protection program. Although I cannot speak for all the Tasmanian Devils, I know for a fact that Grover Dill is not only alive, but has been off probation for several months. And if there is a STD it's in remission. If there are any other Tasmanian Devils out there, please check in to set the record straight. Damn media with its liberal bias!! Next they'll defame Carl (Moose) Eller and say he has a drinking problem.
I know of two living members of that famous team. One is living next to the railroad tracks in a far northern suburb of Minneapolis...the other is hiding out on a small "spread" (as they call them down here) west of Fort Worth, Tx. Both, I believe, will make an appearance at the reunion in August...incognito of course.
This is great news. The Tazmanian Devils rise again. We will have a reunion within a reunion---incognito, of course.
On another topic: (Rant Begins) why is it that Danny and I have to share a picture, but Roman gets one with just himself? 40 years later and it's still "Oh look how cute Roman is. And he's so nice. Mr. Most Popular and Most Likely to Succeed." I've spent my life in his shadow and it's time to set the record straight. I am the wind beneath his wings. Sure, Romie is an upstanding citizen, a caring husband, a wonderful father and a dedicated worker. But is he happy? Ok--so he's happy. But has he experienced the cutting edge of life, the "one step ahead of the shoe shine, two steps away from the county line" kind of life that I have known. Does he need to take Prilosec for his stomach and Lunesta to help him sleep throught the post tramatic stress that I have known. I'll bet he secretly envies my Vonnegut-like life and hides it behind a veneer of contentment and peace. (Rant Ends)
